August Reads

Another month, another reading wrap-up. I didn’t get a ton read this month, but I did get quite a bit of selection read. Hope you find some new books to check out!

Romance:

The Summer Retreat by Sheila Roberts– I’ve liked Sheila Roberts’ books for a long time, and this was no exception. A very sweet and cute read.

Bad Boys of Summer by Lori Foster, Erin McCarthy, and Amy Garvey– I’m a sucker for a good anthology and this one was great for summer, even though it is almost over. All three stories were great and easy to read.

Leo Loves Aries by Anyta Sunday– I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and I was so happy. I almost finished this book in one night. This won’t be a lot of people’s taste, I wasn’t sure it was going to be mine, but I found myself rooting for the main characters in the end.

Last Chance Rebel by Maisey Yates– I’ve read Maisey Yates for a long time and can’t get enough of her books. She is an amazing writer and no two stories are quite the same. This book was a little darker I guess you could say than some of her others in this series, but she wrote it well. Forgiveness is a huge point made in this story.

Fantasy:

Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link, and Robin Wasserman– All three fantasy books this month were anthologies, but I’d have to say this one was probably my least favorite. Cassandra Clare is a favorite writer of mine, but I wasn’t in love with this anthology. The stories were all pretty long and you do have to be pretty up to date on all three series mentioned in this book. Otherwise it was great. I will continue reading all of her books.

Cravings by Laurell K Hamilton, Mary Janice Davidson, Eileen Wilks, and Rebecca York– There were some amazing stories in this book! This was one I read very quickly. The stories caught my interest, and I really like most of the writers in here.

Dead But Not Forgotten edited by Charlaine Harris and Toni L.P. Kelner– This is full of Sookie Stackhouse stories. I haven’t read the book series yet, but I was really into the True Blood television series. All the stories in here were great, and I feel like even if you don’t even know who Sookie Stackhouse is, it is a book you can still enjoy.

Manga:

Demon Diary vol. 3-7 art by Kara, story by Lee Yun Hee– My month wouldn’t be complete without at least one Manga. I had started this series last month, but had to wait to finish it once I bought a couple that I needed. This manga was ended great, and I’ll definitely be rereading it in the future.

Mystery:

Murder of a Creped Suzette by Denise Swanson– This was a pretty good book. I was never excited to read it, but I also never wanted to put it down when I picked it up. The author did a great job at keeping the reader guessing right up till the end. After finding out who the murderer was, I still was in awe. A great read.

The Last Word by Ellery Adams– This book was so good! This was a book I didn’t want to put down. It does focus on the main character’s relationship as well so you do get some romance as well, which I loved.

Children’s:

Pottytime for Chickies by Janee Trasler- This was a cute book. I got it as a gift for my little cousin’s birthday and had to read it first. Great for kids learning to be pottytrained.

I Love You to the Moon and Back by Tim Warnes– A super sweet book that I couldn’t resist giving to my friend at her baby shower. It is so cute and the artwork is amazing.

Ten Wriggly, Wiggly Caterpillars by Debbie Tarbett– This was originally supposed to be a gift, but I fell in love with the story. I want kids one day so I added it to my children’s book collection.

Thank you all so much for reading! I hope you found some great book ideas. What was a book that you loved reading this month? Have you read any that I listed above? Comment and let me know! Until next time.
