This past week we went to Schulenberg and some of the surrounding areas. We had a ton of fun and got to experience some interesting things. I definitely recommend the area and have a ton of places to share. Enjoy!
Dining
We first ate at Lucy Tequilas (Lucy Tequilas | Facebook). We ate a lot of food and were definitely stuffed. I did order a margarita and really enjoyed it. They do have big portions and you get a large bowl of chips and salsa for an appetizer. I have a few photos of the three plates we got as well as the margarita. We had started eating before snapping a photo…this happens a lot lol
The other place we ate at was Oakridge Smokehouse Restaurant (Oakridge Smokehouse Restaurant – Family Restaurant in Schulenburg (business.site)). The food was incredible here and was a huge portion. They had a buffet when we went that evening, but we all chose to eat off of the menu.
We did also get a bunch of kolaches from the Original Kountry Bakery (Home (theoriginalkountrybakery.com)). We love going here and always end up getting a lot. Their cinnamon rolls are amazing and I’ve never eaten anything here that I didn’t like.
We wanted to try a few more places, but unfortunately didn’t have the time. If you have a place to recommend, please let me know!
Shopping
We went to a few places to shop, but really didn’t do all that much. I bought a few things here and there, but didn’t spend a whole lot. I did enjoy browsing the shops though. I will mention another shop later, but it was a gift shop so I’ll just mention it with the place we went.
One of the places we went to was the Czech’rd Dog. It had a ton of antiques as well as some newer stuff. There were two very friendly cats in there that we got to pet. The lady working was very nice and although I didn’t buy anything, I would go back there again. (Czech’rd Dog | Facebook)
We also went to The Engle Emporium (The Engle Emporium). I did buy a couple books here, but that was it. There is a good selection to browse and we spent quite a bit of time there.
We went to 4 Peas Resale (4 Peas Resale, Resale Store, 189 S. Brown St. (hub.biz)) in La Grange as well. I bought a book here as well. My parents had more luck and found a few more things.
There were more places we wanted to go to, they were mainly opened on weekends though. Hopefully we’ll be able to go to them on our next trip.
Attractions
We went to quite a few museums while we were there as well as some other things. Most of it was free as well.
The first place we went to was Monument Hill and Kreische Brewery State Historic Site (Kreische Brewery State Historic Site | THC.Texas.gov – Texas Historical Commission and Monument Hill and Kreische Brewery State Historic Sites (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov) ). You do have to pay to go here, but it really isn’t much. There are a lot of hiking trails and some interesting historical structures. I took some pictures here, but I could have taken so many more. My dad and I ended up hiking pretty much every trail. They do have a gift shop too.
We also went to The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (czechtexas.org)). This is free to go to and there were some really cool exhibits. My great-grandma was from Czechoslovakia so it was interesting learning more about that culture. I didn’t take a lot of photos here, but I did buy a few things in their gift shop.
We went to another free exhibit, Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum (SMAM – Home (stanzelmuseum.org)). This was really cool and super interesting. They have a lot to look at and takes place in three buildings. I took a ton of photos here, but I’ll just pick and choose some to post. I highly suggest coming here to see more for yourself.
The last attraction we went to was the Mini Statue of Liberty (Hallettsville, TX – Mini Statue of Liberty (roadsideamerica.com)). This was pretty cool but there’s really not much else there.
That’s my trip to the Schulenburg area! Have you been to any of these places? Hope you enjoyed. Until next time.
