April 2022 Reads

I didn’t get a ton read in April unfortunately. I started quite a few books but didn’t have time to finish them because they are very chunky books (over 2,000 pages long -_-). I’m hoping May is a better reading month though!

A Witch’s Work is Never Done by Kate Moseman

When Raya the witch goes to Paris to up her witchcraft game, the demon Phoenix follows her—much to her annoyance. She knows better than to fall for a sarcastic, devil-may-care pleasure-seeker like him… or so she thinks. Everything bores Phoenix beyond words—except Raya. Not that he’d ever admit it, even to himself. But when he accidentally eats enchanted macarons, all hell breaks loose—and Raya is the only one who can save him from a relentless witch who’s out to imprison all of demonkind. If only they could stop arguing with each other.

This was so cute! I loved the humor and romance so much and need to go back and read the first book now.

Not the Witch You Wed by April Asher

Magic-less witch Violet Maxwell wants nothing to do with alpha wolf shifter Lincoln Thorne—the man who broke her fragile, teenage heart. But when the two of them are forced by arcane Supernatural Laws to find mates, Violet and Lincoln agree to fake-date their way to a fake-mating in order to conjure themselves some time. The joke’s on them. When old feelings make a reappearance—along with Violet’s magic—they both realize there’s nothing fake about their feelings. But there are old secrets and looming threats that could snatch away their happily ever after, again. One thing’s for sure: magic doesn’t make dating and love any easier.

This was so cute and funny! I loved the main characters so much and can’t wait for the rest of the books in this series.

Bewitched By My Best Friend by Melissa McTernan

Sparks fly every time they kiss. And that’s the problem. Callie has always managed to keep her strange powers under control. Until her best friend kissed her, that is. After the literal lightning storm that moment ignited, Callie made a run for it. But now Sawyer has tracked her down, and he wants answers. Sawyer did not expect to find his former best friend and girl of his dreams hiding away in a cabin in the woods. He expected the dragon hanging out in the garden even less. The more he learns about Callie, the more he realizes she really is magic. But every time they touch, Callie’s emotions send her powers into chaos. Between the earthquake, the snowstorm, and the dragon sulking outside her window, how will Sawyer ever convince her their love isn’t dangerous? When a neighbor goes missing, all eyes are on Callie. If she doesn’t find a way to control her emotions and her powers, electric kisses will be the least of her problems.

This was a cute, quick read. I really enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down.

Freaking Love Part Two by Bethany Monaco Smith

“Sometimes first love doesn’t last, but real love will always persevere.” Maia: Braden was right. He said I was done and I am. Maybe I’ve been done for a while now, but that doesn’t make him walking out on me, and especially Harper, any easier. A month of running away from his life and he finally returns to town, yet I’m the one picking up all the broken pieces he left behind. Now I’m living life as a single mom and trying to figure out—for the first time ever—who I am and what I really want from my life, all while healing from the heartbreak of my first love falling apart. This isn’t how I saw my life going. But I think I’m okay with that. I’m ready to move on, find myself, and maybe even consider falling in love again. Nick: My best friend ghosted me. Broke up with Maia, walked out on his daughter, and left town. Even if he is back now, he’s not exactly making an effort to fix what he broke. And for me, he’s become a reminder of a dark piece of my past, my own father abandoning me. How the hell do I reconcile the guy who used to be my best friend with the person he’s become? I don’t know. But there is one silver lining. In Braden’s absence, I’ve been spending more time with Leigh. She’s still the ultimate pipe dream, but lately I think I might be weakening the walls she uses to guard herself. Call me crazy, but I’m starting to believe I might just have a shot with Leigh Romero.

This book was insane. There was so much drama and things that happened. Bethany broke my heart, healed it, and broke it again. The ending killed me and I need book three like yesterday.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

As the founder of the lifestyle website TheChicSite.com and CEO of her own media company, Rachel Hollis developed an immense online community by sharing tips for better living while fearlessly revealing the messiness of her own life. Now, in this challenging and inspiring new book, Rachel exposes the twenty lies and misconceptions that too often hold us back from living joyfully and productively, lies we’ve told ourselves so often we don’t even hear them anymore. With painful honesty and fearless humor, Rachel unpacks and examines the falsehoods that once left her feeling overwhelmed and unworthy, and reveals the specific practical strategies that helped her move past them. In the process, she encourages, entertains, and even kicks a little butt, all to convince you to do whatever it takes to get real and become the joyous, confident woman you were meant to be. With unflinching faith and rock-hard tenacity, Girl, Wash Your Face shows you how to live with passion and hustle–and how to give yourself grace without giving up.

This was so good! I don’t usually like self-help books but this one was great. I loved how she gave examples of her own life experiences, even though a lot were hard to talk about.

A Bargain with the Fae King by Megan Van Dyke

For Lia Ashmore, the only thing keeping her grief and guilt in check after an accident nearly killed her little sister, May, are her recurring dreams of Riven, a shadowed man who’s become her confidant, a pleasant escape from the pain of reality. When May is taken by animalistic dark Fae, Lia journeys to Faery, desperate to save her sister. There, she comes face to face with three shocking truths: Riven is real, he’s not human, and in fact, he’s the King of the Forest Fae. They strike a bargain. He’ll help her save May in exchange for what he wants: Lia as his consort. But saving her sister is not as easy as either expected, and a failed rescue attempt reignites an age-old conflict between Fae courts. As her relationship with Riven blossoms, Lia becomes increasingly entangled in bitter rivalries and political power plays. In a world where no one can lie but everyone has secrets, Lia will have to decide who to trust. The choice alone could cost her heart, but the wrong one may demand her life—and her sister’s.

I really liked this! I loved the characters a lot and can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

One Way Back to Me by Carrie Ann Ryan

One dance at a stranger’s wedding. That’s all it took for me to fall for Alexis.
And then? Disaster. Another man—her boyfriend—gets down on one knee and proposes to her.
I never thought I’d see her again. Years later, I’m in desperate need of a wedding planner—not for myself, but for my company. My five brothers and I need to get our new Wilder Resort off the ground, and Alexis is the only one savvy enough to help us. But there’s the little matter that I still have it bad for her. Alexis has changed since the night we met. She’s gun shy. But there’s a spark between us that will not die. We both fight it, until we don’t. Until history repeats itself. The same guy who took her away from me is back to do more damage. But this time he’ll have to go through me to get her.

I loved this so much! I can’t wait to read all the other brothers’ books in the future. These characters are very lovable and I can’t wait to see their romances.

Little Doe by Angela McAllister and Tina Macnaughton

Little Doe is a timid little fawn- when it comes time to be brave in the face of danger, will she be able to? This beautiful children’s story with full-color illustrations carries a heart-warming message about bravery and is sure to be a favorite for the whole family.

This was cute. I mostly read it for my buzzword reading challenge but still enjoyed it.

Confectionately Yours: Taking the Cake by Lisa Papademetriou

Confession: Hayley’s in another sticky situation . . .Hayley and her little sister, Chloe, have just moved into their grandmother’s house with their mom, who recently divorced their dad and now runs the family’s tea shop. With her knack for baking, Hayley helps out too, but her newfound talent seems to have cost her her best friend, Artie. Now Hayley’s crushing on someone who might just be Artie’s new boyfriend. This mess really takes the cake!

This was really cute and I want to continue this series now. It is middle grade but very enjoyable.

The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren

Single mom Jess Davis is a data and statistics wizard, but no amount of number crunching can convince her to step back into the dating world. After all, her father was never around, her hard-partying mother disappeared when she was six, and her ex decided he wasn’t “father material” before her daughter was even born. Jess holds her loved ones close but working constantly to stay afloat is hard…and lonely. But then Jess hears about GeneticAlly, a buzzy new DNA-based matchmaking company that’s predicted to change dating forever. Finding a soulmate through DNA? The reliability of numbers:This Jess understands. At least she thought she did, until her test shows an unheard-of 98 percent compatibility with another subject in the database: GeneticAlly’s founder, Dr. River Peña. This is one number she can’t wrap her head around, because she already knows Dr. Peña. The stuck-up, stubborn man is without a doubt not her soulmate. But GeneticAlly has a proposition: Get ‘to know him and we’ll pay you. Jess—who is barely making ends meet—is in no position to turn it down, despite her skepticism about the project and her dislike for River. As the pair are dragged from one event to the next as the “Diamond” pairing that could launch GeneticAlly’s valuation sky-high, Jess begins to realize that there might be more to the scientist—and the science behind a soulmate—than she thought.

I’m in love with this book. I loved the characters so much and their romance was super cute! I teared up a few times while I read this and grinned through a lot of it. Christina Lauren is very good at making you feel things and I need to buy more of their books!

Those are all the books I read in April! Have you read any of these? Thank you so much for reading. Until next time.
