June 2021 Reads

This month was not a great reading month for me. I only got seven books read, which since I was on vacation and had my birthday I guess isn’t too bad. I was hoping to read more, just didn’t have the time. Here’s all my books I read this month!

King’s Country by Marie Johnston

I’ve been the wicked witch of King’s Creek since I was eight years old, from my angry red hair down to my ball-busting boots. With a mean drunk for a daddy who left nothing but insults and unpaid bills in his wake, was there ever any other fate? Now his passing has left me one bad turn, from losing my land to the neighbors my family’s been feuding with for generations. So of course it’s Dawson King who comes to my rescue in the middle of a snowstorm. But I don’t care how good he looks in a pair of Wranglers, or how much he spoils my horse, or how great of a cook he is. The Kings already have everything—money, looks, and charm. Dawson’s not getting my heart too.

I’m living my dream, I admit it. I took over the family ranch from my dad and grew it into the envy of Montana. I have the best views, the best employees, and the respect of the entire town. The only thing I don’t have is someone to share my dream with. So when my neighbor breaks her leg and nearly freezes to death, I all but kidnap her back to my place to recover. We grew up less than a mile apart, but we couldn’t be in more different places now. Bristol’s had nothing but pride for so long, it’s hard to get close to her. And I want to get very close to Bristol. I don’t care if the whole town loves me, I’m only interested in earning the love of one woman. But for a guy who’s got the world at his feet, Bristol’s heart might be out of my reach.

I’ve loved this series so much. While they are part of a series, they can definitely be read as a standalone. This book was so cute and I loved the ending. I can’t wait for the next one!

Wolf and Parchment: New Theory Spice and Wolf Vol. 1 and 2 by Isuna Hasekura

The young man Cole dreams of one day joining the holy clergy and departs on a journey from the bathhouse “The Spice and Wolf Inn,” owned by his savior, Lawrence. The Winfiel Kingdom’s prince has invited him to help correct the sins of the church. But as his travels begin, Cole discovers in his luggage a young girl with a wolf’s ears and tail named Myuri who stowed away for the ride!
In the past, Cole had accompanied the Wise Wolf Holo and the traveling merchant Lawrence on their own wanderings, eventually growing up alongside their daughter, Myuri as siblings. But as Cole prepared to set off, Myuri opposed his departure and so she secretly ran away from home to join him!
This is the story of Wolf and Parchment, and the pair’s travels that will someday change the world!

I really liked these two books, even though they were a bit hard to get into. There is a ton of information you have to get through, but the actually story is great.

The Next Best Thing by Kristan Higgins

Lucy Lang isn’t looking for fireworks… She’s looking for a nice, decent man. Someone who’ll mow the lawn, flip chicken on the barbeque, teach their future children to play soccer. But most important… someone who won’t inspire the slightest stirring in her heart…or anywhere else. A young widow, Lucy can’t risk that kind of loss again. But sharing her life with a cat named Fat Mikey and the Black Widows at the family bakery isn’t enough either. So it’s goodbye to Ethan, her hot but entirely inappropriate “friend with privileges” and hello to a man she can marry. Too bad Ethan Mirabelli isn’t going anywhere. As far as he’s concerned, what she needs might be right under her nose. But can he convince her that the next best thing can really be forever?

This was such an amazing book! You go through so many emotions while you read this. Kristan Higgins is great at making you feel things and this book was no different.

Under His Skin by Linda Lael Miller, Carla Neggers, and Lori Foster

Snowflakes on the Sea by Linda Lael Miller: Mallory O’Connor McKendrick: To the daytime TV audience she was the ruthless Other Woman, but the real Mallory’s marriage seemed to be falling victim to a woman who was truly as unprincipled as the character Mallory played. Nathan McKendrick: His songs could set the world on fire, but he couldn’t find the words to tell his wife how much he loved her–and no one else. Their love for each other was still strong, but could they find their way back together through the emotional storm that raged around them? Bewitching by Carla Neggers: Just like Romeo and Juliet… At long last, writer Hannah Marsh had found the perfect man. Win Harling was a gorgeous, successful businessman, and they seemed like a perfect match. But things weren’t perfect for long. As luck would have it, their families had been feduing for three hundred years. They both thought they could bury the hatchet. Yeah, in Win’s thick skull, Hannah decided when he accused her of writing a book that would smear his family’s name. Suddenly it felt right to step into the traditional marsh vs. Harling roles. Loving Win had felt so right and now itwas going so wrong. Would they end up in each other’s arms-or at each other’s throat? Outrageous by Lori Foster: He was totally outrageous! One minute, the sexy-as-sin cop was rescuing Emily Cooper from drunken hoodlums. Five minutes later he was tearing his clothes off in front of a group of voracious women. What kind of man was he—and why couldn’t Emily keep her hands off him? She was totally irresistible! Judd Saunders couldn’t believe it when beautiful, wide-eyed Emily started poking her gorgeous little nose into his dealing on the lower east side. She was obviously a menace to herself–and to his libido. Worse she’d blow his cover. For little did Emily know that Judd really was a cop—whose cover left him a little too “uncovered” for his liking.

The three short stories in this book were pretty good. I wasn’t crazy about all of them but did still enjoy them.

Hang The Moon by Alexandria Bellefleur

In a delightful follow-up to Written in the Stars, Alexandria Bellefleur delivers another #ownvoices queer rom-com about a hopeless romantic who vows to show his childhood crush that romance isn’t dead by recreating iconic dates from his favorite films… Brendon Lowell loves love. It’s why he created a dating app to help people find their one true pairing and why he’s convinced “the one” is out there, even if he hasn’t met her yet. Or… has he? When his sister’s best friend turns up in Seattle unexpectedly, Brendon jumps at the chance to hang out with her. He’s crushed on Annie since they were kids, and the stars have finally aligned, putting them in the same city at the same time. Annie booked a spur-of-the-moment trip to Seattle to spend time with friends before moving across the globe. She’s not looking for love, especially with her best friend’s brother. Annie remembers Brendon as a sweet, dorky kid. Except, the 6-foot-4 man who shows up at her door is a certified Hot Nerd and Annie… wants him? Oh yes. Getting involved would be a terrible idea—her stay is temporary and he wants forever—but when Brendon learns Annie has given up on dating, he’s determined to prove that romance is real. Taking cues from his favorite rom-coms, Brendon plans to woo her with elaborate dates straight out of Nora Ephron’s playbook. The clock is ticking on Annie’s time in Seattle, and Brendon’s starting to realize romance isn’t just flowers and chocolate. But maybe real love doesn’t need to be as perfect as the movies… as long as you think your partner hung the moon.

While I’ve never read Written in the Stars and I probably never will, I loved this book. You don’t feel like you miss much by not reading the first. I loved this book so much. It is so funny and such a sweet but realistic romance. I read this in a day because it was just that good.

A Sunrise Kind of Love by Loran Adelle Davis

Makiya: I always dreamed this day would happen. The day where Hunter would show up on my doorstep and confess his undying love for me. I never stopped loving him no matter how hard I tried, no matter how angry I was at him for leaving. Now, after five long years of waiting, he leans against my car with the same cocky smirk he wore when we were younger. Damn, if my body doesn’t react to him as if there was never any time lost between us. Just his gaze roving over my body makes me feel tingly all over. I hate how smug he looks like he knows how he still affects me. I hate that my heart still wants him after everything he’s done. What I hate most of all, though, is that he’s about to find out the secret I’ve been keeping from him all these years. And he’s going to be pissed. This is going to change my life forever. Hunter: Secrets? Really, that’s how we’re playing this game? We’re keeping secrets from each other. The Ki I knew would have never kept something this big from me, but I guess she isn’t the same girl I knew. I’m not the same guy either. She thinks I don’t want anything to do with her. That’s why she kept this from me. Well, she’s about to find out the cold, hard truth. I’m not leaving without a fight, and I’m definitely not giving her a chance to walk away from me this time. I spent too many years of my life, hiding from my love for her. It’s about damn time for me to stop running. So, Ki better get used to the fact that she’s going to see my handsome face everywhere. Challenge accepted. A Sunrise Kind of Love is a second chance, sweet with a little heat romance and a guaranteed HEA. It is the first book in the Love in Sunrise Series but can be read as a standalone romance. You are guaranteed to fall in love with all the characters, and you might even laugh a few times too.

This was such a sweet book. I really loved it and can’t wait to read more in the Love in Sunrise series.

Those are all the books I read this month! What did you read in June? Thank you so much for reading. Until next time.
